2007 jeep commander review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Drive anywhere with room for seven. introductionthe jeep commander can haul up to seven people and a lot of stuff just about anywhere it can fit. Several new features are available for 2007 as well. Among them: a rearview camera, a power liftgate, a remote starter, and active turn signals. In most states, the optional 4. 7-liter v8 can operate on gasoline or up to 85 percent ethanol. The rear seats are progressively stepped up, theater style, giving back-seat riders a view of the road. This feeling of airiness is enhanced by a pair of glass roof panels, though the third row is best reserved for 10-year-olds. utility comes in the form of a perfectly flat cargo floor when the rear two rows are folded down, providing nearly 69 cubic feet of cargo space. Those in the front seats enjoy a comfortable cabin, much of which is shared with the jeep grand cherokee. belied by the utilitarian styling, however, is the commander's responsiveness and agility. It handles surprisingly well for a tall, seven-passenger suv. On the highway, the commander is a notably smooth and comfortable cruiser, and we think it'd be a good choice for that cross country trip to yellowstone. It's reasonably quiet, allowing easy conversation, a pleasant surprise given the squared-off styling and all-terrain tires. a choice of v6 and v8 engines is available. It raises the interior plush factor with suede-trimmed leather seats embroidered with the overland logo; leather-wrapped shift knob and grab handles; berber floor mats; and woodgrain trim on the center stack, console, steering wheel (which is also leather-wrapped) and front door panels. Overland also adds conveniences, such as a power liftgate, parkview reversing camera, gps navigation, uconnect hands-free communications, and a cargo net. Outside, overland is distinguished by platinum-look trim and a unique wire-lattice grille. overland 4wd 43,975) comes with quadra-drive ii. other commander options include rear-seat dvd player and engine block heater. An off-road group for 4wd models adds skid plates and tow hooks. A class iii towing package is available with the v6, and a class iv package with either v8. Additionally, many limited and even overland convenience features are offered as either options or part of option packages on lower-cost models. safety features that come standard include side-curtain air bags with a roll detection system deploy in case. walkaroundbased on the grand cherokee, the jeep commander is the second-largest civilian-production jeep in history. (the largest was the j-120/j-130 gladiator pickup of the 1960s and '70s.) the commander is two inches longer and more three inches taller than the grand cherokee. The commander's stepped roofline makes headroom for the rear-seat passengers, but the stepped effect is camouflaged by a roof rack rail. the commander is instantly recognizable as a jeep, thanks to liberal use of jeep design cues, such as the seven-slot grille, trapezoidal wheel wells, and squared-off lines with flat surfaces. On limited and overland, assist handles extend from the roof rail down the back of the d-pillars, adding to the rugged, utilitarian appearance of the vehicle. The assist handles are black with chrome inserts on limited, and black with platinum inserts on the overland. On top of the rear bumper is a diamond-plate-texture step pad. The pad's nonskid surface is helpful when stepping on the rear bumper to gain access to the roof of the vehicle for tying down kayaks, bicycles and other gear. jeep has reached deep into its heritage to revive the overland name. First built in 1903, the overland automobile was the earliest ancestor of the willys. Willys played an instrumental role in the development and production of the world war ii-era jeep, but was also the first automaker to seriously envision a civilian market for a military-style utility vehicle. The willys jeep debuted in 1946 and had its name shortened to just-plain jeep in the early 1960s. Although the jeep brand has passed through several owners since then, its lineage remains unbroken. interiorthe cockpit of the jeep commander has a cozy, cocooning feel to it. The commander has a tangible sheltering quality that immediately appealed to us. Overhead skylights add an airy feeling for passengers in the second row. The skylights are fixed and don't open, but they have pull-out shades to filter light and reduce heat. The commander's raised roof permits use of stadium seating; each row is higher than the one in front of it, giving second- and third-row passengers enhanced forward visibility. the third-row seat will accommodate an adult, but seems designed for children in the eight- to 10-year-old range. To access the rear, the second-row seat flops forward, providing a careful adult with a reasonably easy path to the rearmost bench seat, which is split 50-50. Optional diesel engine expands lineup. introductionjeep promotes the grand cherokee as a full-size suv, but that's only partly true. In its physical dimensions and towing capacity, grand cherokee is a mid-size, like the ford explorer or chevrolet trailblazer. At the base level, it's priced like a mid-size. It isn't even jeep's biggest suv, as that honor now belongs to the commander. Yet it is instantly recognizable as a jeep. Inside, the atmosphere is light, comfortable, and enveloping, with lots of seat adjustment, excellent outward vision around relatively slim windshield post. All switches and controls are clearly are labeled and easy to find and use. In back is nearly 70 cubic feet of cargo space. anyone familiar with grand cherokees of just a few years ago will find that the chassis is now far more sophisticated, giving the current model much better handling than that of pre-2005 models. Its turning radius is tighter, too, good for crowded parking lots. a wide range of modern engines is available. The 5. 7-liter hemi v8 is particularly good for towing or driving at higher elevations. The high-performance srt8 model has a 420-horsepower 6. 1-liter hemi and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds. The smaller, 4. 7-liter overhead-cam v8 works quite well, too, and is offered in most states with e85 flex-fuel capability, meaning it can run on gasoline or up to 85 percent ethanol. Overland 4wd 42,690) adds quadra-drive ii. the 3. 0-liter diesel engine is optional on laredo, limited, and overland, with 2wd or 4wd, but was not available for earlier production models. the srt8 40,105) comes with a 6. 1-liter hemi rated 420 horsepower, a lowered suspension and its own electronic all-wheel-drive system. It's actually smaller than a ford explorer. in appearance, the grand cherokee is modern and square-edged, with a fashionably high waistline and small side windows. The shape of the body is designed to protect the sides of the vehicle from potential road debris. Revised taillights distinguish the '07; otherwise grand cherokee's outside appearance hasn't changed significantly since '05. while conventional suvs, such as the dodge durango, are built on a separate frame like a truck, the grand cherokee uses an unusual construction scheme jeep calls uniframe, a close marriage of a welded steel unit-body and underlying front and rear modules. This is an extremely sturdy and rigid concept developed back in jeep's days with unit-body pioneer american motors. The laredo has been upgraded here for '07, with the same chrome gauge rings that used to be exclusive to the limited, plus chrome-accented hvac controls and a matching-color bezel (replacing black).

2007 jeep wrangler unlimited review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It's an anachronism, and should probably be a dinosaur, but no, it's still popular because it fills a need like no other vehicle. Despite its inherent design limitations (we won't call them flaws), primarily balance and storage, the wrangler delivers inimitable fun. Challengers have not been able to steal from the allure of the jeep. The dynasty lives on. jeep engineers have kept the momentum rolling by making timely improvements. It's a perfect fit for the times. It doesn't change or pervert the character of wrangler at all, it just makes the vehicle more attainable, and more desirable for many. It's much more comfortable and convenient, and holds way more stuff, including happy passengers. maybe best of all, a lot more content has been added, especially in the areas of comfort, safety and convenience; and there has been an average price reduction of $1200 down the line. each of the six models of the wrangler uses the same new engine, a 3. 8-liter v6 making 12 more horsepower than the previous trusty inline-6 that's been around for more than 20 years. It has the same peak torque but at a higher range, and that detracts some from the wrangler's uphill performance; but gas mileage is about the same, at 16 city and 19 highway for the 4x4. There are also a dana 44 rear axle, trak-lok anti-spin differential, 16- or 17-inch aluminum wheels, electronic front sway bar disconnect, trailer tow group, tow hooks, engine block heater, and locking fuel filler cap. the sahara 19,345) is the premium model in the lineup, and adds the sunrider top, the electronic stability program, electronic roll mitigation, 17-inch aluminum wheels with goodyear wrangler tires, body-colored fender flares, tubular side steps, heavy-duty suspension, tinted windows, cruise control, foglamps, tow hooks, and the infinity sound system. To the sahara, it adds the disconnecting front sway bar, rock-trac part-time transfer case with 4:1 low range, dana 44 front and rear axles, tru-lok locking front and rear differential, 4. 10 axle ratio, rock rails, and 32-inch b. The sahara models offer electronic stability and electronic roll mitigation. Seat-mounted front side air bags are optional with some models. walkaroundnaturally, the new wrangler looks just like a jeep; the redesign for 2007 didn't mess with the classic round headlamps, seven-slot grille or upright fold-down windshield, although the windshield is slightly curved, for the first time on a jeep, for better aerodynamics and reduced wind noise. Only a jeep aficionado will be able to tell the all-new '07 wrangler from the '06, but there are ways. identifying a new wrangler unlimited is easy: just count the doors. although the wheelbase of the '07 wrangler has been stretched by 2 inches, the vehicle is 2. 6 inches shorter overall, thanks to reduced overhangs and new bumpers. And it's 5. 5 inches wider, with a 3. 4-inch wider track. Jeep says it's 'dramatically brawnier,' but we'd say that's a dramatic statement. The sheetmetal is new, with a slight crown. The halogen headlamps are brighter, and the new front bumper has integrated fog lamps near its center. For the first time, there are step assists under the doors to make climbing up into the jeep easier, and the tail lamps are new. The fender flares are bolted on, so they can be easily taken off and replaced with cooler aftermarket flares. The bumpers, step assists and fender flares are all sturdy, flat-black plastic on the x. the standard soft top is improved for easier removal and installation. The sunrider soft top slides back half way, like a huge sunroof over the front seats. The new optional three-piece modular hardtop (freedom top) has two front panels that easily pop on and off like a t-top, and are stored behind the rear seat. The third panel over the rear seat can be removed separately and stored in the garage. The freedom top yields a total of six open-air possibilities. under the body, there's a new boxed frame that's 100 percent stiffer in bending and 50 percent stiffer in twisting, with seven cross members. This helps in crash results, and enabled a new suspension: steering geometry, shock absorbers, springs and control arms are all different. Wide spaced frame rails cradle the fuel tank between the wheels. Three skid plates protect the fuel tank, transfer case and automatic transmission oil pan. interiorthe 2007 jeep wrangler two-door is a lot roomier inside than pre-2007 models, thanks to its increased width. The comfortable new high-back front seats, using a handsome stain-resistant gray or khaki-colored fabric in the sahara and rubicon, offer 5. 1 inches more shoulder room and 4. 6 inches more hip room. The removable rear seat provides 3. 9 inches more shoulder room, 1. 6 inches more hip room and 1 inch more leg room for each of the two passengers. There's also 2 more inches behind the rear seat, which now folds to provide nearly twice the cargo capacity as before. the cabin is 20 percent quieter, thanks to better isolation from new body mounts, extensive use of something called pcl (polymer constraint layer), and new seals at the doors, along the a-pillar, and at the top of the windshield. as for the larger unlimited, jeep claims that its 86. 7 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seat folded flat (the headrests flip back, so they don't need to be removed) is more than the toyota fj cruiser, hummer h3 or nissan xterra. That huge difference is because in the regular wrangler, the rear passengers sit directly over the axle and between the wheel wells; in the unlimited, the axle is located behind them. The instruments, including the optional compass and temperature gauges, are easy to read, and the controls are soothingly simple. The solid square buttons look good and are easy to understand and operate. Seven speakers, including subwoofer, is a whole lot of speakers for the cabin of a jeep, and we think this is a good thing. The locking glove box is about one-third larger than before, and there's a convenient grab handle above it. This is a jeep, after all, so the grab handle will be used in the bouncy bits. .
